Leaks
can often be a source of trouble for sprinkler systems, if you think you have a
leak, make note of
when
it leaks ( does it leak constantly or only when the system is running or does
the area just seem to
be
saturated all the time?)
#1
Leaks constantly, or is always saturated (goto #2) , Only leaks when the system is running (goto #5).
#2
This is what is referred to as a mainline leak. Does it come straight up out of the ground (goto #3)
or
does
it leak from the sprinkler heads (goto #4)
#3
More than likely this is a break or crack in the pvc pipe, pvc fitting,
electric valve, main valve, or automatic drain
valve
not shutting off. Turn off the water,
start digging at the highest elevation in the wet area (water will always
run
downhill) locate the leak, replace or
repair the item leaking. PVC Repair
#4
This is a special situation, noticeable
symptoms include a leak or multiple leaks coming from the sprinkler
heads
themselves even when the system is turned off (usually leaks at the lowest elevation heads on the zone)
This
is what is referred to as a weeping valve.
The leak is actually coming from the valve to this zone. The
Valve
is not shutting off completely and needs to be repaired or replaced. Valve Repair
#5
More than likely this is a break or crack in the pvc pipe, pvc fitting,
electric valve, main , automatic drain
valve
not closing, or sprinkler head broken .
Turn off the water, start digging at the highest elevation in the wet
area (water will always
run
downhill) locate the leak, replace or
repair the item leaking. PVC Repair
